Our community demanded quick action and has waited for deportation relief long enough
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following Texas Federal Judge Andrew Hanen’s ruling to impose a preliminary injunction on President Obama’s immigration action, United We Dream is welcoming the news that the Department of Justice will begin challenging the Republican lawsuit to delay the opportunity for undocumented immigrants to apply for deferred action. The lawsuit was filed by 26 Republican politicians who hand-picked the judge to hear their case.
Cristina Jimenez, United We Dream’s Managing Director said,
“The immigrant community fought for deferred action and demanded quick action to challenge the baseless Republican lawsuit. Today, the Department of Justice has rightly begun their challenge and our entire community is ready to defend our victory in the courts and in the halls of Congress.
“The lawsuit is just another desperate attempt to delay the inevitable, that people like my parents, who have lived in this country for more than 15 years, will have the opportunity to live without the fear of deportation.
“We are confident that the courts will rule in our favor, and that millions of people will soon be able to come forward and be protected from deportation.
“As Republicans continue pushing their mass-deportation agenda, it is encouraging that the White House is using every resource available to ensure that DACA and DAPA are successful programs.
“Dreamers have already begun to help our community apply for these programs and get protected from deportation. We’re ready to ramp it up and make history!”
