United We Dream “MigraWatch” Initiative Defends Community Against Immigration Raids

United We Dream Press Releases

Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, news broke that the Obama Administration is planning to launch a new wave of raids on immigrant mothers, children and families who fled violence in Central America.

Immigrant youth across the country are responding by turbocharging United We Dream’s longstanding initiative to equip the immigrant community with the tools they need to defend themselves against the Obama administration’s terrorizing raids with a new “MigraWatch” initiative. The raids fly in the face of the Obama Administration’s statements relating to racial and criminal justice.

Ambar Pinto, National Deportation Defense Fellow with United We Dream and leader with Dreamers of Virginia said, “We must defend ourselves against immigration agents who are terrorizing our communities. We’re urging everyone in our communities to know their rights and to not open the door, to report ICE activities to the United We Dream hotline (1-844-363-1423), to take photos and videos of ICE, and to form a “MigraWatch” group in their own communities to defend themselves from ICE  agents and their intimidation tactics.”

Zenen Jaimes Perez, Policy & Advocacy Analyst for United We Dream said, “We know ICE agents have engaged in civil right violations by lying to community members, entering homes without warrants, and arresting students at bus stops on their way to school. Leaders throughout our network are here to ensure our local communities know their rights and are organized! We must end the criminalization of people of color and provide individuals fairness and justice for all communities.”
