Houston, TX – One thousand will assemble in Houston, TX for the largest gathering of undocumented immigrant youth leaders ever held – the United We Dream Network’s National Congress.
As the Supreme Court considers whether millions will be protected from deportation and as politicians increase their demagoguery of immigrants, the young leaders who courageously came out of the shadows and defied the odds to revolutionize politics will establish a plan of action to respond to the court’s announcement and to defeat the hate in this year’s politics as well as chart a course to win future victories.
United We Dream members will also celebrate the 4th birthday of their victory – the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA) which is now protecting well over 700,000 from deportation. They will be joined by Univision Anchor Jorge Ramos as well as leaders from a cross-section of social movements to discuss plans to further revolutionize politics and build power.
The biennial Congress is a sign that the immigrant youth movement is thriving with hundreds of attendees under the age of 20 as well as parents and older individuals and even undocumented youth from other countries in attendance.
Additionally, the leaders will take action to end deportations and criminalization with a march and rally to demand that Harris County – responsible for more deportations than any other – stop collaborating with federal immigration agents. Leaders will also attend a wide variety of workshops on activism, life, career and education.
