McAllen, TX – On Saturday, immigrants, together with hundreds of community members, people of faith and advocates for environmental justice, will rally through central Mcallen to Archer Park on a national day of action to protect the rights of border residents and prevent deportations.
In nearly 50 cities across the country, immigrants and people of conscience of all backgrounds will raise their voice to declare that they will stand up for respect and equality and against deportations, racial profiling, criminalization and hatred. Border residents are adding our opposition to the border wall, which has already caused destruction of our environment and the violation of the rights of indigenous peoples and property owners.
The march will promote solutions that prevent deportations, including preserving the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, winning local policy changes at the state and city level, as well as creating sanctuary spaces in churches and schools to protect immigrants and refugees. The march will also affirm our commitment to protecting Muslim Americans from religious profiling and surveillance, and the environment from destruction caused by more border walls.
