Washington, DC – Today, immigrant youth condemned the appointment of Julie Kirchner as United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Ombudsman in the Department of Homeland Security.
Kirchner is the former director of the Federation of American Immigration Reform (FAIR), a prominent anti-immigrant hate group that has long advocated against the programs USCIS is charged with administering.
Greisa Martinez, Advocacy Director for United We Dream, and a DACA beneficiary, made the following statement:
“This appointment of Julie Kirchner shows that anti-immigrant hatred is a preferred qualification for top jobs in the Trump administration. Trump says that immigrant youth should “rest easy,” yet appoints an anti-immigrant hate group leader as the person in charge of helping us work out issues at USCIS. Clearly, Kirchner cannot be trusted to treat immigrant youth or families with respect or fairness. We will be relentless in continuing to holding the Trump administration accountable for terrorizing and harming our communities. We look forward to the day when the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will offer real protection and security to all immigrants who live and work in this country.”
