Washington, DC – Today, Donald Trump stood with Senators to announce a vision to shut the door on half of all immigrants to America and undo the family-based immigration system. In the chaotic release of the Raise Act, well known extremist Trump advisor dismissed the inscription at the Statue of Liberty and cited “facts” by a racist think tank which blames immigrants for traffic jams.
Julieta Garibay, Campaigns Director for United We Dream issued the following statement:
“With this bill, the Trump team shows that they oppose immigrant families. It is a wonderful thing that today moms and dads and daughters and grandparents can join their family members because family is a wonderful thing. We should be making that process faster – not ending it.
“I’ve always known in my heart that the extremists who smear undocumented immigrants aren’t doing so because we don’t have papers and the Raise Act makes that perfectly clear. They simply view immigrants in such a dehumanized light that they would try to legislate away our family ties.
“Within the next month, the Trump team will decide whether to keep the DACA program and enable 800,000 young immigrants to continue working or throw them into poverty and the deportation pipeline.
“This is a nation of immigrant families, this is our home and we are here to stay.”
