Washington, DC – On Wednesday, the Trump administration announced their plan to cap the number of refugees accepted into the United States next year at 45,000. This number would be a drastic drop from the level set by the previous administration and would be the lowest in years.
With this decision, the Trump administration continues its streak of racist and cruel moves that keeps vulnerable people from seeking refuge in our country.
Sanaa Abrar, Policy and Advocacy Manager at United We Dream said:
“Capping the number of refugees to a historic low endangers the lives of thousands of those most vulnerable seeking refuge and shelter. Many United We Dream members came to this country fleeing violence and poverty so we understand just how cruel this move is. We demand that members of Congress reject this plan by the Trump administration and fulfill the promise of Lady Liberty.
“At United We Dream rallies, our members chant, ‘no hate, no fear, immigrants and refugees are welcome here!’ We believe that to be true and we will continue to resist Trump’s racist and cruel agenda.”
