Washington, DC – Today, Attorney General Jeff Sessions testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee. As expected, Sessions continued to dodge questions regarding his scheme to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which has upended the lives of over 800,000 immigrant young people and left them at risk for deportation.
During the hearing, Senator Durbin (D-IL) pressed Sessions on the legal basis for terminating DACA. Watch the interaction here.
Greisa Martinez Rosas, Advocacy Director for United We Dream and DACA beneficiary, said:
“Sessions has one goal when it comes to immigration policy: mass deportation and terror for our immigrant community to fulfill his white supremacist agenda.”
“It’s telling that when Senator Durbin asked Sessions whether he had communicated with TX Attorney General Paxton over his “threat” to file a lawsuit to kill DACA, Sessions refused to answer. From the beginning, Sessions has made it clear that he would go after immigrant youth and our families by killing DACA and handing us over to deportation agents.”
“I cannot understate the urgency our community is facing. Immigrant youth and our allies are calling for a clean Dream Act by December, because each day that passes in one more immigrant youth that loses their DACA protections, and it’s one more day where our livelihood is threatened and we become prey for mass deportation agents. We will not give up until our community is protected from Sessions’ sick game.”
