Washington, DC – Right now, immigrant youth are risking arrest at Representative Will Hurd’s D.C. office to demand a clean Dream Act. After a month of incredible urgency, Rep. Hurd has yet to act.
Meanwhile, in El Paso, immigrant youth and allies from Soñando Juntos are meeting with the office of Rep. Hurd to call on him to co-sponsor a clean Dream Act.
Deyanira Aldana, Organizer at United We Dream, said:
“Today, four immigrant women are sitting in on Rep. Will Hurd’s D.C. office calling on him to co-sponsor a clean Dream Act. Not tomorrow, today!”
October 5th marks one month since Trump shamefully killed the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, putting the lives of immigrant youth in immediate danger. It’s also the day that Trump has decreed all DACA renewal applications must be turned in. After this date, waves of more and more immigrant youth will become vulnerable to Trump’s deportation agents every single day.
Earlier today, progressive leaders from a variety of backgrounds declared passing the Dream Act to be their number one political priority. Immigrant youth have asked Rep. Hurd to sponsor the Dream Act multiple times in both Texas and Washington.
