Court Rules to Stop Trump Administration from Punishing Cities Who Create Safe Spaces for Immigrants

United We Dream Press Releases

Washington, DC – Today, The Hill reported  federal judge ruled that the Department of Justice cannot withhold federal aid from Philadelphia over sanctuary city policies.

Cristina Jimenez, Co-founder and Executive Director of United We Dream, had the following response:

“Today’s ruling is a victory for immigrants, people of color and all those who are determined to stop the Trump Administration from going after our families and our communities. Now, Trump and white supremacists in his administration like Jeff Sessions won’t be able to hold sanctuary cities hostage by withholding federal aid.

Today’s ruling is not an endpoint – let this be a rallying cry for more resistance! We call on all people of conscience and political leaders to create safe spaces where all those under attack from Trump and his agents can live with dignity and thrive. It we do not continue to resist, Trump’s growing mass deportation machine will continue dragging people out of their homes, churches, hospitals, and schools. We can and must stop them.”
