Washington, DC – Today, news began to leak on the framework of a possible Republican immigration proposal.
Greisa Martinez Rosas, Deputy Executive Director for United We Dream said:
“An immigration framework built upon the premise of keeping immigrants out is not a solution to the problems we face.
“We don’t know what the Republican framework actually contains but we do know this: Trump killed DACA, killed three bipartisan proposals and then unleashed deportation agents to hunt us down. Congress must pass a clean Dream Act and stop pumping billions of dollars into the deportation force now.
“Ending the diversity visa program is Congress’ way of satisfying Trump’s racist demand that immigrants from African countries be shut out. Spending $25 billion to build Trump’s wall would devastate border communities and separating families is wrong whether it happens at the border or by stopping families from reuniting.
“Tonight, 100 courageous family members in White Plains, NY will rally against the deportation force who have stolen their fathers and brothers away. They are putting their bodies on the line to defend their immigrant families and we demand that Congress follow suit.”
United We Dream is the largest immigrant youth-led organization in the nation, a powerful network made up of over 400,000 members and 48 affiliate organizations across 26 states. UWD’s vision is to build a multi-racial, multi-ethnic movement of young people who organize and advocate at the local and national levels for the dignity and justice of immigrants and communities of color in the United States.
