Washington, DC – Today, Donald Trump said that he “hates” the family separations that his own administration mandated. Yesterday, Paul Ryan and Republicans unveiled an immigration bill that they say will stop family separations, which it won’t.
Greisa Martinez Rosas, Deputy Executive Director of United We Dream and potential beneficiary of the Dream Act said:
“The cruelty of Donald Trump, Paul Ryan and the deportation force is rightly shocking the world and now Republicans are lying to cover up their drive to wipe us out.
Today is the sixth anniversary of DACA program, but instead of building upon this success, Trump and Republicans are tearing down all of the protections we have and are sending the deportation force out to get us.
Trump made the decision to treat children and families with such cruelty and in detention camps today, children are being forced to look at a mural of Trump’s face. They are waging a sick psychological and physical war on our bodies and our spirit but we refuse to bow down.
Congress should pass a clean Dream Act and defund the deportation force now.”
United We Dream is the largest immigrant youth-led organization in the nation, a powerful network made up of over 400,000 members and 48 affiliate organizations across 26 states. UWD’s vision is to build a multi-racial, multi-ethnic movement of young people who organize and advocate at the local and national levels for the dignity and justice of immigrants and communities of color in the United States.
