Washington, D.C. – Just yesterday, the Trump administration’s military and deportation force tear gassed asylum seekers at the border, including children.
Eli Cuna, National Field Director of United We Dream, said:
“Trump’s deportation force use of tear gas at the border yesterday is sickening. These are mothers, these are fathers, these are children, these are people just like me and my family. The people at the border right now have abandoned everything to flee violence and seek refuge — instead, this government has them gagging, choking, and running blind in fear.
“Congress must step up and act swiftly to call for each person’s right to asylum. With continuing evidence that ICE and CBP are being weaponized against poor people of color, Congress must reject the use of taxpayer money to fund Trump’s deportation agencies and the agents that carry out his travesties.”
United We Dream is the largest immigrant youth-led organization in the nation, a powerful network made up of over 400,000 members and 48 affiliate organizations across 26 states. UWD’s vision is to build a multi-racial, multi-ethnic movement of young people who organize and advocate at the local and national levels for the dignity and justice of immigrants and communities of color in the United States.
