Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (D-TX), along with 222 co-signers, introduced a bill to stop Trump from seizing funds from other departments for the construction of his border wall.
Sanaa Abrar, Advocacy Director of United We Dream, said:
“Immigrant youth of United We Dream fully support this resolution to stop Trump’s power grab.
No matter the billions that Congress has already given to Trump for his growing deportation force, Trump will stop at nothing to demand even more in order to build his monument of hate at the southern border.
Let us be clear: Trump is raiding other departments’ funds to realize his mass deportation plans and send the message to the country — and the world — that no new immigrants can come in, and that all current immigrants must be driven out. He is bypassing Congress with a fake emergency and creating a constitutional crisis.
The real emergency right now is the pain that immigrant youth, families and communities face as the deportation force grows and protections get slashed. Congress must rise up to oppose Trump’s wall and funding of the Deportation Force and instead champion a pathway to citizenship for the millions of immigrants who call the U.S. home.”
United We Dream is the largest immigrant youth-led organization in the nation, a powerful network made up of over 400,000 members and 48 affiliate organizations across 26 states. UWD’s vision is to build a multi-racial, multi-ethnic movement of young people who organize and advocate at the local and national levels for the dignity and justice of immigrants and communities of color in the United States.
