Washington, D.C. – This evening, Congressman Joaquin Castro’s (D-TX) resolution to stop Trump from seizing funds from other departments to build his border wall passed in the House of Representatives.
Sanaa Abrar, Advocacy Director of United We Dream, said:
“Today, the House took an important first step from stopping Trump from raiding money from other departments in order to fulfill a sick and racist campaign promise.
“Immigrant youth of United We Dream know that Trump’s emergency declaration is just one of many tactics he’s used to grow the Deportation Force. With Congress’ support, the agencies of ICE and CBP got billions more, but now Congress has the opportunity to end this constitutional crisis and stop Trump from causing even more harm to our border communities.
“Members of the Senate must rise up to oppose Trump’s wall and funding of the Deportation Force, and get behind a new vision where immigrants can live in peace and thrive by championing pathway to citizenship for the millions of immigrants who call the United States home.”
United We Dream is the largest immigrant youth-led organization in the nation, a powerful network made up of over 400,000 members and 48 affiliate organizations across 26 states. UWD’s vision is to build a multi-racial, multi-ethnic movement of young people who organize and advocate at the local and national levels for the dignity and justice of immigrants and communities of color in the United States.
