Austin, TX: Earlier yesterday, Gov. Greg Abbott announced another step in fulfilling his fantasy of turning Texas into a white pupremacist dreamland. In a Facebook Live, Abbott announced that the State of Texas will be giving ICE & CBP almost a million dollars, along with 1,000 National Guard troops.

This announcement comes as no surprise from the same state leadership who proudly boast their anti-immigrant ideology and signed the SB4 racial profiling law in 2017. It also comes on the heels of massive ICE raids across the country threatened by Trump, with the city of Houston as one of their target cities.

Julieta Garibay, co-founder and Texas State Director of United We Dream Texas said:

“A billion dollars and additional manpower will only embolden ICE & CBP and strengthen their reign of terror on immigrants across our border and throughout the state. More money and manpower means more concentration camps, more violence, and more deaths of our people. We’ve been tracking the abuses from ICE & CBP, and some of the most heinous human rights violations happen in our state – violence the Governor should be ashamed to fund with the hopes of increasing this reign of terror.

As Governor Abbott and state leadership pat themselves on the back for using tax payer dollars to inflate domestic terrorism, people across the state are left without healthcare, access to clean water, or a living wage. The state’s priority is to reign terror on black and brown immigrants to create a White Supremacist state. We will not stand for the abuses against our people.

Concentration camps, family separation, violence, and abuse must end now. This is a humanitarian crisis that can only be solved by shutting down concentration camps, releasing all detainees, and cutting off all avenues of funding for ICE & CBP.

We will continue to train, educate, and empower our people to stand up and fight back. We are equipping our community with  resources through our MigraWatch Hotline and our deportation defense app, Notifica to prepare for these raids and other attacks. We are united in the front against state sanctioned violence on our people.”
