Bill Could Protect 2.6 Million Immigrants, MTR Keeps Them In Danger
Washington, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives is set to vote to pass the Dream and Promise Act, which is the most inclusive immigration legislation in years and which would protect 2.6 million people from deportation. On the verge of passage, Republicans may be preparing to introduce a “Motion to Recommit” (MTR) to undermine the bill.
Sanaa Abrar, Advocacy Director of United We Dream, said:
“Representatives should vote to pass the Dream and Promise Act and reject any shady moves to undermine the bill like a Motion to Recommit.
Donald Trump was wrong to kill the DACA, TPS and DED programs and was wrong to block the Dream Act.
Regardless of the spin, a Motion to Recommit would undermine the Dream and Promise Act and keep immigrants in danger.
Passage of the Dream and Promise Act would say loud and clear that the House of Representatives believes that 2.6 million immigrants should be protected.”
