Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Trump and his right-hand racist Stephen Miller announced an asylum ban. The rule makes Central American countries and Mexico into de facto Safe Third Countries. They are not. The rule would end credible fear interviews for all Central American refugees; without it, they will be sent to countries where they will remain in danger.
Sanaa Abrar, Advocacy Director of United We Dream, said:
“The White Supremacist-In-Chief announced yesterday another racist policy, and immigrant youth of United We Dream swiftly rejected it because its sole intention is to keep brown and Black people out of the country.
People arriving at the border are in search of a better life and applying for asylum and due process are human rights that Trump wants to ignore, but we won’t let him.
We hope to see the asylum ban struck down swiftly and continue to demand that Trump #CloseTheCamps and provide full due process to every person seeking asylum.”
United We Dream is the largest immigrant youth-led organization in the nation, a powerful network made up of over 400,000 members and 48 affiliate organizations across 26 states. UWD’s vision is to build a multi-racial, multi-ethnic movement of young people who organize and advocate at the local and national levels for the dignity and justice of immigrants and communities of color in the United States.
