The House of Representatives passed a funding bill that would give an additional $400 MILLION to ICE for the detention of our neighbors and expand their enforcement budget to $5.45 BILLION! This bill is making its way to the Senate NOW. Demand your Senators use their power to invest in the future of our communities rather than continuing to fund death and destruction.
The House of Representatives had an opportunity to stand with the American people. Instead, they’ve chosen to continue funding terror at the hands of ICE. On January 7th, following the federal government’s deployment of 2,000 immigration agents to Minneapolis and escalating efforts to target the city’s immigrant communities, an ICE agent brutally shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, a US citizen, mother of three, a poet and a neighbor.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time ICE has shot people in American streets, nor is it the first time people have died at the hands of ICE. Last year, there were a record 32 registered deaths in ICE custody, with 6 deaths already reported this year. Since Renee Nicole’s murder, ICE has shot more people, dragged people out of their houses and cars without a warrant, and has even tear gassed a family with children inside their car, including a 6 month old infant.
Last year, Congress passed a reconciliation bill that gave ICE a $20 billion increase per year until 2029. That’s billions of American people’s hard earned tax dollars being used to pay for these horrifying actions against our communities! More funding for state-sanctioned abductions, building and scaling up detention facilities, and the deployment of immigration agents into our streets will only result in our communities being abused, beaten, and even killed.
The FY2026 funding bill would give an additional $400 MILLION to ICE for the detention of 44,500 of our neighbors each day (on top of the 100,000 capacity granted by last year’s reconciliation bill). Demand your Senators use their power to invest in the future of our communities instead of continuing to fund an agenda of destruction and death.
Instead of delivering a pathway to citizenship, Congress continues to fail our communities and put Black, brown and immigrant lives on the line. Millions of people are living with uncertainty and the threat of being abducted from their jobs, families, and communities. We want our tax dollars and resources spent on healthcare, education, housing, groceries, all things that we need to thrive.
CALL YOUR SENATOR TODAY to demand your Senators vote NO on additional funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
