Washington, D.C. – Following the acquittal in the Kyle Rittenhouse murder trial, Juanita Monsalve, Senior Marketing and Creative Director of United We Dream, issued the following statement:
“There is no justice to be found in a system that devalues Black lives and those who protest the state-sanctioned violence against Black people. On full display throughout this trial was the clear double-standard of our criminal legal system, which works for white people, and against Black and brown people.
This acquittal will embolden white supremacists, who in some instances are already encouraged by state legislation to take deadly action against those protesting for the rights of Black people to live free and thrive. That’s because embedded into the fabric of our nation are the threads of white supremacy and state-sanctioned violence against Black and brown people from enforcement agencies like police, ICE, and CBP, and more and more frequently also from white supremacists roaming the streets in places like Kenosha and El Paso. United We Dream’s members are determined to continue the fight against this injustice and to bring forth true equity and liberation for all people of color in this nation.”
