Washington, D.C. – This week, United We Dream updated their “Biden Deportation Tracker” estimating that over 1.2 million individuals have been deported or expelled under the Biden administration, despite a promise from President Biden himself to put a stop to deportations. Prioritizing the safety of immigrant communities will only happen once the Biden administration ends deportations and provides permanent protections to undocumented individuals.
Cynthia Garcia, United We Dream National Campaign Manager for Community Protection:
“These deportations and expulsions under the Biden administration show the continued threats posed by ICE and CBP. This high number of deportations and expulsions is troubling, and goes against everything President Biden promised while he was running for president. The continued use of Trump-era policies like Title 42, and “Remain in Mexico” or MPP, which have attacked our asylum system, has put people – the majority of them Black immigrants – in danger, and denied them their humanity.
The Biden administration must change course and make good on an overdue promise to offer real protections to the immigrant community by stopping deportations, ending Title 42 and “Remain in Mexico.” The immigrant community can’t wait, President Biden needs to urgently deliver on his promise to stop deportations and end the harm that’s being caused everyday to immigrants under his watch. The Biden administration can’t hide behind Trump policies and harmful court orders, these deportations and expulsions are under his leadership and he must drastically change course.”
