Washington, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives voted along party lines to pass the $3.5 trillion budget resolution which includes over $100 billion to support a pathway to citizenship for millions of immigrants. The House vote comes on the heels of the Senate’s approval of the budget resolution earlier this month.

Juliana Macedo do Nascimento, Senior Advocacy Manager of United We Dream, said:

“For months, immigrant youth and our allies have organized and built tremendous momentum in urging Democrats in Congress to deliver what the overwhelming majority of Americans support: Citizenship for millions. Today, House leaders, including House Speaker Pelosi and CPC Chair Representative Jayapal, CHC Chair Representative Ruiz, and champions Rep. Correa, and Rep. Chuy Garcia took a bold and significant step forward in matching our demands to deliver a pathway to citizenship for immigrant youth, TPS holders, farm workers and other essential workers through reconciliation. Still, our fight isn’t over.

Democrats in Congress must be firm in rejecting cruel and baseless efforts to add anti-immigrant amendments to the reconciliation bill. Just as they showed us in the Senate vote-a-rama earlier this month, some Republicans in Congress will use every opportunity to harm immigrant communities. Right now, all eyes are on Democrats to fulfill their promises to help America recover and to prevent any more pain against our communities. Immigration related provisions have been included in reconciliation before and it must be done again. This is our year to win citizenship for millions!”
