Project Goals

This project will focus specifically on the implementation of communications strategies for UWD’s ongoing campaigns. In addition, UWD aims to implement a comprehensive strategy to elevate immigrant youth leaders and UWD’s presence in the media. Specific deliverables and Scope of Work to be included in proposals:


  • Develop and implement communications strategies that will deepen reach and impact for ongoing campaigns;
  • Support the development and refinement of organization’s core messages to ensure consistency and success of campaigns;
  • Develop relationships with national and local reporters, editorial staff, columnists, television bookers and bloggers;
  • Produce public education and political campaign materials;
  • Integrate online and new media strategies into overall communications strategy;
  • Execute rapid response for breaking news stories wherever they occur, often in Washington, D.C.;
  • Maintain strong relationships with communications staff of allied organizations and UWD affiliates;
  • Continuously seek opportunities to include organization and the immigrant youth voice in the media and debate about Deferred Action and other polices;
  • Develop and maintain new and traditional media contacts database;
  • Support the coordination of press conferences, media briefings, and teleconferences related to campaign activities;
  • Support affiliates with communication needs such as drafting releases and pitching;
  • Support the development of content for the organization’s website and any external communication;
  • Provide communications/media trainings to staff and affiliates as needed;
  • Develop and publish organization’s bimonthly newsletter for affiliates and other materials for Deferred Action;
  • Coordinating regular updates to key allies, donors, and other constituencies and;
  • Compile UWD media history from 2009-present.

Note: This project is anticipated to include a 6-month contract period. Proposals for the Scope of Work and
deliverables above should be submitted with an accompanying project budget not to exceed $22,500. The
approximate date for this contract to begin is January 14, 2013.



Proposals must include:

  • Resumes or organizational descriptions, including references and a description of other work of a similar nature completed by the individual, LLC or firm.
  • A detailed narrative that fully describes consultant’s qualifications to successfully complete the specific project or Scope of Work outlined in the RFP or Attachments to the RFP, not to exceed one page.
  • A detailed contract budget or explanation of contract fees and rates. The total contract budget must not exceed the amounts specified above.
  • A detailed timeline outlining proposed, specific activities to be performed from initial planning meetings to completion of contract and project deliverables and/or stages.



The Contractor must be located in Washington D.C.
