Washington, D.C. – As attacks against working people intensify across the country, United We Dream is launching a nationwide mass organizing campaign to bring together and invest in the leadership growth of hundreds of immigrants, parents, working people, and youth who power our communities day after day. The Powered by the People campaign recognizes that we, the working people, hold immense economic power in this country and deserve to be at the helm of driving forward the solutions that center us and our needs. Through a series of educational trainings, regional events, and workshops, this campaign will focus on equipping hundreds with tools and skills to be able to develop their own strategies and campaigns locally, defend and strengthen protections for themselves and their communities, and organize the people around them – from friends to family– to take collective action in fighting for the rights and needs of all working people, immigrants and U.S. citizens alike.
Anabel Mendoza, Director of Communications for United We Dream, said:
“The Powered by the People campaign is grounded in one undeniable truth: we, the people, power this country. We, the workers, whose hands help to build our cities, harvest our food, and care for our families. We, the parents, who are juggling jobs and childcare to be able to provide for our loved ones. We, the young people, whose tenacity and courage has led to mass student-led walk outs and sit-ins demanding justice for all. And we, the immigrants, whose dedication fuels our nation’s economy and powers this country forward.
There is no denying that what we are up against as working people is meant to divide us. United We Dream’s campaign is about bringing hundreds of working people together–especially young people– who are ready to meet this moment united and with courage in order to forge a better future for each other where we can all be free to thrive. With over 40 regional trainings and events, Powered by the People will grow the leadership and organizing skills of working people to become leaders, and learn to harness our legacy of American and immigrant resilience. Together, we will bring people to unite and build the future we know we deserve; a future where we all have what we need to thrive because we work together to co-create it.
