United We Dream and our local branches are fully committed to create the next generation of leaders. Over the summer we are launching a unique initiative that will commemorate those who came and fought for social change and justice before us. These summer programs will serve as a tool to expose youth to the different ways of community organizing, activism, to own power, and bring positive and systemic change to their community.
Where is Summer of Dreams Happening?
The program will run from Monday, June 25 to Sunday, August 11, 2018. Summit scholars will attend the program sessions three hours a day for four days a week, Monday- Thursday. The Summer Summits will have a focus on:
Student’s will gain knowledge on the history of social justice movement such as immigration, LGBTQ, women, and indigenous rights to better understand the political and social moment we are in.
Students will learn from experienced and local organizers on how grass-roots organizing plays an important role in society. They will gain knowledge on organizing philosophy, campaign training, story of self, and critical thinking skills through a racial justice and intersectionality framework.
Youth will get hands on organizing events, canvassing, participating in forums, communications and digital organizing.
Lastly, but most importantly, students will learn and grow through fun activities such as artvism, music, and wellness healing. College prep, tutoring, and scholarship workshops will also be offered.
