Washington, D.C. – In an exclusive article with NBC News, it was revealed that the incoming Trump administration aims to rescind a policy that prevents ICE agents from targeting and detaining people in schools, churches, hospitals and more. This comes as part of Trump continues to lay out his plans to carry out the largest-scale mass deportation effort in this country.

Juliana Macedo do Nascimento, Deputy Director of Federal Advocacy of United We Dream, said:

“It is cruel beyond words to think ripping children from their classrooms, targeting patients in their hospital beds, and families going to church is going to make anyone in our country safer. We have said it time and time again: Trump’s mass deportations will target anyone and everyone, including working class families, teachers, students, nurses, doctors, union workers, and U.S. citizen children. The immigrants who will be ripped from our homes and families are the people you see every day: your neighbors, colleagues, and friends.

Knowing the horrific and inhumane ways the Trump Administration plans to fulfill its promises, we demand local leaders and elected officials on all levels step up to defend the members of their communities now! With anticipation of the next administration’s boundless cruelty, we demand Congress stand their ground, stay true to our communities, and vote no on all anti-immigrant provisions – including funding for mass deportations– during the reconciliation process and beyond. We also call on state and local leaders –school administrators, employers, elected officials, and more– to take action now to shore up protections for immigrants in their communities who will be on the frontlines of these attacks. Together, we have tremendous power to resist and weaken Trump’s efforts to destroy and target our communities.”
