Washington D.C. – New reporting from the Associated Press details how the extreme delays at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in processing DACA application renewals is leading to an uptick in DACA recipients losing their jobs. As prices soar nationwide – crushing working families –DACA renewal delays are leaving recipients exposed to the rising threat of detention and deportation and without the financial stability to pay for rent, groceries, medical bills and more if their DACA renewals don’t arrive on time.
“It’s not just anecdotal; it’s happening at a larger scale than we’ve ever seen before,” said Greisa Martínez Rosas, Executive Director of United We Dream. Some DACA recipients have waited 6 months or longer, as DACA renewal processing times reach the longest they’ve been in a decade.”
These delays are part of a cascading crisis weakening the DACA program piece by piece. Since the start of 2025, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has detained well over 300 and deported over 90 DACA recipients, that we know of. This week, members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) joined advocates in Washington D.C. to demand Congress deliver a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients and all immigrants.
