“Mil Gracias!” to Jorge Ramos, a Champion for Immigrant Voices

Contact: press@unitedwedream.org

Washington, D.C. – This week, Jorge Ramos, one of the most influential and trusted news anchors  for the immigrant community, announced that he will be leaving Noticias Univision after a 40 year career at the network. Over his time as a reporter, Ramos has been a profound leader within the journalism industry whose commitment to uplifting the voices of directly-impacted communities pushed the boundaries of immigration reporting for the better. Notably, Ramos stood with immigrant youth at the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court in defense of DACA, pushing to ask the tough questions about the attacks our communities have encountered even as he faced backlash from the highest offices and political leaders.

Greisa Martinez Rosas, Executive Director of United We Dream:

“Jorge Ramos knows the importance of using his platform to center the voices of immigrants and has left a lasting mark on the story of United We Dream. When many reporters were unwilling to listen to immigrant youth, Jorge offered a safe space for undocumented people like me and so many others to push past the fears of sharing our status and finally tell our stories publicly. He made it known that he didn’t just want to hear from us; he wanted to learn from us and let our voices be lessons for the world. His commitment to highlighting the strength and power of immigrant young people and telling our stories with integrity and with humanity will be his lasting legacy. Immigrant youth at United We Dream wish nothing but the best for Jorge in his next chapter and only hope that reporters learn from his decades-long career and the stories of immigrant pride, hope and love that he uplifted for the world.

Jorge, siempre estaremos juntos en busca de la verdad, justicia y dignidad para nuestro pueblo. Mil gracias.”

Ever since their creation, ICE and CBP have targeted, detained, abused and deported immigrants while separating loved ones and tearing apart communities. Donate 21 dollars to help us fight back against the 21 years of terror.
