Washington, D.C. – Today, Senate Democrats unveiled their multi-trillion-dollar budget resolution, which includes over $100 billion to support a pathway to citizenship for immigrant youth, TPS holders, farm workers, and other essential workers.
Recent polling revealed that 70 percent of Americans across party lines support a pathway to citizenship for millions of immigrants. Today’s news is one step towards delivering popular, life-changing policy to millions of people.
Greisa Martinez Rosas, Executive Director of United We Dream, said:
“For years, undocumented communities have lived under the constant threat of deportation and family separation all while facing cruel and racist attacks from the right-wing, including attacks on DACA that have resulted in the program’s partial end. Still, in the face of these cruelties, immigrant youth spent months transforming our fear into direct action to fight for permanent protections for ourselves, our families, and millions more. Today, we proved once again that our power is undeniable. Senate Democrats’ inclusion of pathway to citizenship in their newly-unveiled budget resolution is a testament to our courageous immigrant youth leaders and allies who organized outside of the White House and their Senators offices, sent letters to their elected officials, and mobilized their communities over the past eight months to demand a pathway to citizenship for immigrant youth, TPS holders, farm workers and other essential workers.
We have always known that temporary protections like DACA have never been enough and that all immigrants deserve permanent protections. Now it’s time to make citizenship a reality. Immigrant youth will continue the momentum we’ve built to ensure Democrats in Congress take advantage of this golden opportunity and only move forward with passing a resolution that includes citizenship for millions and reject any and all anti-immigrant amendments. We know that we are home, that our power is undeniable, and that this is our year to win citizenship for millions!”
