Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell publicly admitted that his main and only priority is “stopping” the Biden-Harris administration from moving forward all its legislative plans in the Senate. In his words: “100% of my focus is on stopping this new administration.”

Juliana Macedo do Nascimento, Senior Advocacy Manager of United We Dream, said:

“Mitch McConnell confirmed what our communities have already known: Republicans don’t care about people and they will do everything in their power to hold progressive legislation, including a pathway to citizenship for millions, hostage for their own corrupt incentives. We are seeing history repeat itself before our very eyes. This obstructionism is unacceptable!

Right now, Democrats in the Senate have an opportunity and obligation to do what is morally and politically right. With Republicans refusing to act in good faith, Democrats must do everything in their power to pursue a 51-vote strategy to deliver citizenship for immigrant youth, TPS holders, farm workers and other essential workers. Immigrant youth refuse to stand by as Republicans continue to block meaningful legislation from passing that the vast majority of the American people support.”

United We Dream is the largest immigrant youth-led organization in the nation; made up of a multi-racial and multi-ethnic network of 1.2 million members, over 100 local groups, and a reach of over 5 million per month. UWD’s vision is to push for just policies that allow everyone to thrive regardless of immigration status. United We Dream is fighting for a multi-racial democracy that works for everyone by building a movement of young people who organize and advocate for the dignity and justice of immigrants and communities of color. This March marks 21 years of ICE CBP & DHS terrorizing our immigrant communities.

Ever since their creation, ICE and CBP have targeted, detained, abused and deported immigrants while separating loved ones and tearing apart communities. Donate 21 dollars to help us fight back against the 21 years of terror.
