Washington, D.C. – In another major victory following the news that the Senate successfully blocked a bill that would have given Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) a $400 million raise to continue terrorizing communities, Congress voted to pass a 2 week continuing resolution (CR) to prevent a government shutdown. This win follows weeks of relentless, nationwide organizing, as communities across the country flooded Senate offices with thousands of calls demanding not another dime for ICE or CBP after the brutal killings of Silverio Villegas Gonzalez, Keith Porter, Renee Nicole Good, Alex Pretti, and nearly 40 deaths in detention across 2025 and 2026.
In response to the CR passage, United We Dream released the following statement:
“We, the people, refused to back down in the face of terror and violence in our communities and our collective pressure is working. Together, we forced the Senate to listen and act. We raised our voices, flooded the phones, organized on the streets, and made it impossible for our communities to be ignored. This win of blocking ICE from getting millions of dollars worth of a raise is not just a major step towards accountability, it is proof that the power of our movement is growing stronger every single day.
That money would have been used to increase the violence we have witnessed unfold on our streets. It would have been used to kill more of our neighbors and rip apart more of our families. There is no overstating that this people-powered victory is helping to protect the lives of our communities.
Now is the time to keep our foot on the gas to demand nothing less than permanent protections, a pathway to citizenship, justice for the neighbors we have lost and an end to funding systems that profit from our pain.”
