Washington, D.C. – Since the kickoff of United We Dream’s Unafraid! civic engagement campaign in May, immigrant youth and allies have achieved a major milestone by engaging over 100 volunteers to contact over 1.6 million people aged 18 to 30 across Colorado, Arizona, and Texas through issue-based text banking.
This remarkable success demonstrates the true power of young people who are fired up to protect our futures and communities against policies that threaten our rights and freedoms, from lawmakers banning access to reproductive healthcare to passing laws that facilitate racial profiling, mass arrests, and deportations.
Michelle Ming, Political Director of United We Dream, said:
“The Unafraid! campaign is proof that the power of young people is unmatched. Reaching over 1.6 million young people in just two months is a major milestone in our fight to build futures where everyone’s rights to live with dignity and safety in our chosen homes, be ourselves, have autonomy over our bodies, are protected. Our generation knows exactly what we are up against; we have lived through it. The success of the Unafraid! campaign is a reminder that in the face of these threats, Black, brown, queer, and immigrant young people are being exactly the leaders we need in this moment. Our love for one another, our care for one another, and our commitment to protecting each other is what fuels us to continue to show up. From securing permanent protections for our loved ones and expanding pathways to citizenship for all, to ending gun violence and ensuring reproductive rights are protected, we are unafraid to fight for the future we believe in!”
