United We Dream Condemns Supreme Court Ruling That Will Sanction Racial Profiling

The 6-3 ruling puts communities of color nationwide at extreme risk.

Washington D.C.– Yesterday, the Supreme Court of the United States sided with the federal government’s mass deportation efforts, ruling 6-3 to reinstate predatory “roving patrols” in Los Angeles and beyond. The Court’s ruling effectively endorses racial profiling, giving ICE and Border Patrol sweeping power to stop and interrogate people based on their appearance and skin color, language they speak, or the type of job they hold. This decision shreds constitutional protections, fuels terror on immigrant communities, and marks an alarming abuse of judicial power.

In response to this news, United We Dream released the following statement:

“This disgraceful ruling is a green light for racial profiling that targets and threatens the safety of communities of color all across the country. By permitting ICE and Border Patrol to target people based on nothing more than the color of their skin, the Supreme Court has opened the door to persecution not just of immigrants, but of all people of color.

“Make no mistake: the threats of being abducted by armed agents on our cities’ streets will affect every one of us. This is setting a dangerous precedent in our country for rampant injustices and is part of a massive erosion of our Constitutional rights. Deploying ICE to cities across the country is also a massive waste of taxpayer dollars that could be invested into our schools, hospitals, and communities.

“United We Dream will not stand by idly while our democratic and constitutional freedoms are eroded. We will continue to fight for a future where every person can live freely, with dignity, and without fear of persecution.”
