Washington, D.C. – Earlier this morning, immigration agents shot and killed a 37-year-old neighbor in Minneapolis in cold blood. As concerned neighbors shouted in horror, a federal agent walked away telling neighbors “boo hoo” as their neighbor lay dead on the pavement.
This fatal tragedy comes just weeks after the brutal murder of 37-year-old mother and neighbor, Renee Nicole Good, the deaths of Keith Porter in LA, Silverio Villegas Gonzalez in Illinois, and the over 30 deaths in detention that occurred over the course of 2025. In just the first month of 2026, already 6 people have died in detention.
It is also on the heels of Members of Congress in the House passing an unconscionable funding bill to give ICE $400 million more in taxpayer funding, on top of the already $170 billion in funding appropriated in the Big Ugly Bill last year. With state-led violence in our cities escalating at an alarming rate, United We Dream, Alliance for Youth Action, Youth Civic Accelerator, Feminist Generation and Gen-Z for Change, released the following statement, demanding the U.S. Senate vote against any funding to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) immediately:
“Federal agents have executed another one of our neighbors in Minneapolis, and in the coming days the Senate is debating giving these same agents a raise after the House passed a $400M funding bill earlier this week. This is inexcusable. Every single Member of Congress who voted to give DHS more money has chosen to fund murder on our streets over safety and dignity for millions of working people.
The Senate has the power to stop this wasteful, deadly and unimpeded flow of our taxpayer dollars right now, before they head to more cities and before another life is taken. Youth organizations representing millions of young people across the country demand Congress zero out – not another dime – of money for ICE and CBP now!
Enough is enough! There is no place for violence in our cities and no excuse to fund an agency that kills mothers and fathers in cold blood, kidnaps preschoolers and children like 5-year-old Liam Ramos, 2-year-old Chloe and 7-year-old Diana. We demand the Senate vote NO on the DHS spending bill immediately and impeach DHS Secretary Kristi Noem to hold the agency accountable for the deaths and destruction.”
