The Types of Information UWD Collects
- Non-personally identifiable device/usage information
UWD automatically collects non-personally identifiable information about you whenever you visit the Website. Non-personally identifiable information is information that, on its own, cannot be used to identify you. Such information may include your Internet Protocol (IP) address (a number that is automatically assigned by your internet service provider to the computer you used), the type of browser and operating system you used, the date and time you visited the Website, the Internet address of the site from which you linked to the Website, and which pages you viewed on the Website. We use this information for several purposes, such as calculating usage levels, helping diagnose server problems, and administering the Website.
We may also use tracking pixels (also called web beacons), which are tiny electronic tags with a unique identifier that provide usage information, such as impressions and clicks, to measure the success of our marketing campaigns and to compile statistics about use of the Website and response rates. UWD uses Google Analytics to gather web analytical data for us. Information about how Google uses information collected from sites that use its services is located at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You may opt out of participating with Google Analytics by downloading the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, available at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
- Personally identifiable information
UWD collects personally identifiable information — data that can be used to uniquely identify you – when you voluntarily provide such information. For example, you may provide us with your name, email address, cell phone number and/or credit card information, when you sign up to join our email or text message lists or when you make a donation online.
To review the personally identifiable information we have about you and to request corrections, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line PRIVACY.
How UWD Uses the Information that It Collects
UWD uses Users’ personal information for the purpose for which it was provided, in other words, to add you to our email or text message lists or to process a donation. We also use this information to better understand how Users use the Website so that we can improve the Website. Furthermore, we may use Users’ personal information to customize content and communications based on individual interests, previous interactions and location.
If you provide UWD with your email address, you will be added to our email list and you will start receiving email communications from UWD, unless you opt out. If at any time you wish to stop receiving emails from us, please follow the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email we send you.
If you provide UWD with your phone number, you consent to receiving phone calls and text messages from UWD. If you wish to be removed from UWD’s phone list, reply STOP to any text message from UWD. We will then send you a message confirming that you have been removed from our text list. Please do not reply to that message, as it may result in your being re-subscribed.
How UWD Protects User Information
UWD adopts appropriate data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures to help protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of your personal information, but no data transmission or storage system is guaranteed to be 100% secure.
Sharing Personal Information
UWD will not disclose your personal information to any third parties absent your explicit consent, except as provided below.
UWD uses third party service providers to help it operate the Website and to administer activities on its behalf, such as collecting donations online. These third party vendors have access to some User information but they are required to protect the confidentiality of the information and to use it only for the limited purpose for which it was provided.
UWD shares personal information about Users with its affiliated 501(c)(4) organization called United We Dream Action. United We Dream Network and United We Dream Action are separate legal entities both committed to protecting immigrants to the United States. United We Dream Action may only use the information we share with it for purposes consistent with its mission.
There may be circumstances when we would share personal information with other like-minded organizations, including those organizations with which we may partner on various campaigns. Use of such information by other organizations is governed by the privacy policies of the other organizations.
We often provide opportunities for Users to sign petitions. We may share some Users’ personal information with applicable public officials related to the petitions.
UWD will use best efforts to avoid having to share any of your personal information if ordered to do so by a court order, subpoena or search warrant, or if otherwise required to do so by law, but UWD makes no guarantee that its efforts to resist disclosure will be successful. If we ever determine that we need to disclose any of your personally identifiable information to the government, we will use best efforts to notify you in advance.
UWD may also share personally identifiable information if it believes it is necessary to protect the rights, property, and safety of UWD or others.
UWD may share personally identifiable information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing or acquisition of all or a portion of its business to another organization.
UWD may share generic aggregated information not linked to any personally identifiable information regarding Users with third parties.
Third Party Websites
Do Not Track Signals
Do Not Track (“DNT”) is a privacy preference that Users can set in certain web browsers. We do not currently respond to DNT signals, as the Internet industry is currently working toward a common approach to responding to DNT.
